FLYING SQUIRRELS
There are two types of flying squirrels, the Northern Flying Squirrel, and the Southern Flying Squirrel. The Southern flying squirrel lives as far north as Canada and as far south as Mexico and they can be found right here in the Lake Norman Area!
Not many people get the chance to see flying squirrels because they are nocturnal and enjoy being at high altitudes. Although they don't actually fly, when they launch from over 60ft. they can glide up to 250 feet! Unlike regular grey squirrels, flying squirrels are extremely sociable and live in colonies with up to 20 of these little critters!
